Borobudur

Built between 778 AD and 842 AD by the Cailendra dynasty, Borobudur is a gigantic monastery located in Central Java, the cultural capital of Indonesia. Regarded as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the massive monument in the form of a stepped pyramid exhibits an architectural genius of time with unsurpassed artistic merit.
Once deserted and hidden under volcanic ash and thick tropical jungle for hundreds of years, Borobudur has been completely restored and was officially opened by the President of Indonesia on February 23,1983. The restoration took eight years to complete, and was funded by the Government of Indonesia, with an aid from the UNESCO and donations from 27 foreign governments as well as private citizens.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Indonesia's architectural masterpiece, the Borobudur Commemorative Coins and Medallions are expertly minted according to the highest quality standard in 999.9 gold, and 999/- silver. Depicting a panoramic view of Borobudur in the reverse, the meticulously crafted numismatic pieces are endorsed by pt. taman wisata candi BOROBUDUR, PRAMBANAN DAN RATU BOKO / the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Indonesia.
